B.R.A.K.E.S. classes are free to all, but we require a $99 refundable deposit via check to secure your reservation. This deposit is necessary simply to ensure that families show up to the class. Without it, the percentage of NO SHOWS increases significantly.
NO SHOWS waste valuable charity resources, including the cost of vehicles, professional instructors, and volunteers that B.R.A.K.E.S. assembles for each program to ensure that the experience will exceed all expectations. Worse, NO SHOWS deprive other teens and parents that are waiting for the opportunity to attend the B.R.A.K.E.S. driving experience.
Your $99 check is not cashed. It will be brought to the class for which you registered and, at your request, returned to you at the completion of the class – though many attendees choose to leave their deposit as a donation after class.
If, however, you do not show up for the class, your $99 deposit is forfeited, and your check will be cashed and deposited.
There are TWO ways to secure a spot in a B.R.A.K.E.S. class.
Check: To be eligible for a full refund, your $99 deposit must be made by check and mailed to B.R.A.K.E.S. Your check will be held until the class date and brought to the B.R.A.K.E.S. class for which you registered. At the completion of the class, you have the option of picking up your check or leaving it as a donation to B.R.A.K.E.S. If you choose to leave your check with B.R.A.K.E.S. a 501(c)3 charity organization, your contribution is tax deductible, and a tax donation receipt will be automatically emailed to you after the class.
Credit Card: If you choose to pay via credit or debit card, your $99 deposit is non-refundable. Due to bank processing fees, we are unable to process credit card refunds after the class is taken. Your deposit will, however, be treated as a tax-deductible donation, and a tax donation receipt will be emailed to you after the class.
B.R.A.K.E.S. is a 501(c)3 charity organization. Our mission is to prevent injuries and save lives by training and educating teenage drivers and their parents. 86% of all donated funds go directly to the B.R.A.K.E.S. driving program. Just 6% of funds are used for administration and 8% for fundraising.
What is the Rescheduling/Cancellation/Refund policy?
If you are rescheduling or canceling a class we must be notified BY EMAIL (email@example.com) BY 9:30am EST, on the Tuesday before your scheduled Saturday AM/PM or Sunday AM/PM class, and a refund will be issued, otherwise we will keep your deposit as a donation to BRAKES and a Tax Donation letter will be emailed to you.
Note: You are allowed to Reschedule (1) time (including within your scheduled weekend or another weekend), otherwise you will have to go back on the waitlist.
The teen’s parent or legal guardian is required to attend the school for several reasons. B.R.A.K.E.S. feels it is important for parents to take an active role in their teen’s driver education. By providing parents the opportunity to experience both the classroom and driving portions of the school, we hope you will be able to guide your teen’s driving long after they leave the school. A second reason the teen’s parent or legal guardian must attend, is to sign liability and legal waivers required for your teen to participate in the school.
Yes, your parent or legal guardian must attend even if you are 18 years or older.
Due to the high volume of families that are trying to get into the school, we do not allow teenagers to go through more than once. We want to provide this opportunity to as many teenagers as possible and therefore, try to save the spots for teenagers that have not yet had the opportunity.
You can attend with your friends. However, please know that you will NOT be in the same car together. This is for your own benefit and to get the most out of your training.
Each school is 4 hours long. The morning school is from 8:00am-12:00pm and the afternoon school is from 1:00pm-5:00pm. You need to attend only (1) four hour school. Hours of class may vary due to COVID safety precautions.
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before start time for your class. If you are registered for the morning school (8:00am-12:00pm) please arrive no later than 7:30AM. If you are registered for the afternoon school (1:00-5:00pm) please arrive no later than 12:30PM. Hours of class may vary due to COVID safety precautions.
Teenagers are encouraged to wear tennis shoes and dress according to the weather. Classes are held outside in all weather conditions.
Teens MUST bring their driver’s permit or license with them to the school. If you do not have your permit or license, you will not be able to attend the school. As a backup, teens should take a photo of their license with their cell phones.
No, we provide the cars for teens and parents to drive at B.R.A.K.E.S. classes.
Yes, schools are held rain or shine. Be sure to dress accordingly for the weather that day.
No, B.R.A.K.E.S. is an advanced driver training taken after you have received your permit or license. Be sure to check your state’s requirements for obtaining your permit or license.
Discounts vary from state to state and insurance company to insurance company. We cannot guarantee your insurance company will give you a discount for attending the B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driver Training. At the end of the school, you will receive a certificate you can present to your insurance agent for their review and determination.
Yes, we are happy to supply you a replacement certificate. All requests for replacement certificates MUST be Emailed or mailed to us via US Post Office Mail service to the B.R.A.K.E.S. offices in Concord, NC.. Unfortunately we can not process requests for replacement certificates via phone or email. If the class attended was completed 30 days or less prior to your request we will provide you a free replacement certificate copy. If the class taken was more than 30 days prior to the request there will be a research, replacement and mailing fee of $30. If more than 30 days since the class date payment ($30) must be via check or money order and must accompany the request via US Mail. All requests MUST include the following information written or typed legibly on a piece of paper and accompanied by the $30 payment if the class was more than 30 days prior: Full name of student, birthdate of student and date & location of the class attended. Regulations require us to verify completion of the B.R.A.K.E.S. program before a replacement certificate can be mailed. Incomplete requests can not be processed, please allow 10 days processing time for replacement certificate requests.
